This week’s newsletter includes the usual dashboard and action items, a link to discussion about generalized Bitcoin contracts over Lightning Network, a brief description of a recently-announced library for scalability-enhancing BLS signatures, and some notable commits from the Bitcoin Core, LND, and C-Lightning projects. We’ve moved to a new platform for distributing this week’s newsletter. Polygon is primarily categorized as a Layer 2 platform because it works alongside the Ethereum network, and is known for its ability to reduce the cost of transacting and increase the speed of transactions on the Ethereum blockchain. The first is that there’s no known way to verify them as fast as Schnorr signatures-and signature verification speed is also important for network scalability. Bitcoin Stack Exchange is one of the first places Optech contributors look for answers to their questions-or when we have a few spare moments of time to help answer other people’s questions.
Note: this is an older answer that saw increased attention this month after some users attempted to convert other people’s addresses to segwit and lost money as a result. ● Can you convert a P2PKH address to P2SH or segwit? Occasionally users of Bitcoin Core need to rescan the block chain to see if any historic transactions affected their wallet-for example, when they import a new private key, public key, or address. As a member of our new organization, you can expect to see regular newsletters from us covering Bitcoin open source development and protocol news, Optech announcements, and member company’s case studies. If you’re not interested in receiving weekly updates on what’s happening in the Bitcoin open source community, please click on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of this email. Still, this open source library gives developers a convenient way to begin experimenting with BLS signatures and even start to use them in applications that don’t need to be as secure as the Bitcoin network. BLS signatures do come with three downsides that have lead most Bitcoin protocol developers to focus on Schnorr signatures for the short-term. BIP157 support for sending filters to light clients over the peer-to-peer (P2P) networ
o
ol.
This currently takes over an hour even on modern desktops, but users with local BIP157 filters will be able to perform the rescan much faster and still with information theoretic perfect privacy (which lightweight clients don’t have). If your account holds BNB, Binance will use it by default. Andrew Chow explains that not only can you pay a zero-value amount to an address or other script, you can also spend from a zero-value output-but only if you find a miner who doesn’t use the default settings in Bitcoin Core. Once signed up, a unique 34-character address (a combination of letters and numbers) is assigned to the user. Like many of the top exchange platforms in the space, it is doing everything to ensure user funds are safe. This token can also be used to top-up user balance to pay for the telecom services that they opt for. 0.10 per token during Binance’s ICO. Distributed finance, powered by immutable smart contracts, can evolve to become more capital efficient and robust enough to provide necessary financial services at scale, in a completely non-custodial environment. 12254 adds the functions necessary to allow Bitcoin Core to generate BIP158 compact block filters. This PR provides a new rule that allows payments with forwarding fees up to 50 nBTC to go through regardless of their fee percentage and adds an option so that users can customiz
a
alue.
This particular PR adds watchtower version 0 encoding and encryption methods by cryptographer Conner Fromknecht. Could you prove that a transaction is not in a particular block or in any block on the best block chain? If you are into crypto currencies, you probably know how much a transaction of a particular coin/token costs. Instead of an independent contract that resolves to True in order to be a valid transaction, the exact same contract is included in a LN payment and must return true in order for the in-channel payment transaction to be valid. Developers switched to LevelDB in release 0.8 in order to reduce blockchain synchronization time. In order to achieve better scalability, privacy, and versatility, developers build desired functionality as new layers of technology that anchor onto Bitcoin. We will work alongside industry partners to defend this important technology from misguided lawsuits. To name a few, Agriculture, Energy, Technology (IoT), Manufacturing & Logistics, Real Estate and much more will evolve with time. Probably for a future release, a mechanism for client compatibility will be implemented and the startup abort will be restored. This new PR removes the startup abort and simply produ
a warning. -
